5 Day Rwanda Gorilla & Golden Monkey Safari
Highlights of this Tour
● Authentic cultural experiences
● Meet the true Kings of the Jungle – the Mountain Gorillas
● Golden Monkey Trekking or visit to Dian Fossey’s Grave
● Kigali city tour including Genocide Memorial and local craft markets
Rwanda, famously known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills,” is one of Africa’s most scenic and inspiring destinations. Rolling green mountains stretch endlessly across this compact yet spectacular country. The most dramatic landscapes rise in the northwest, where the Virunga Volcanoes shelter rare wildlife within their bamboo forests, including some of the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas.
For contrast, the peaceful shores of Lake Kivu offer relaxation, while Nyungwe Forest National Park protects vast montane rainforest filled with primates and rare birdlife. Kigali, the capital city, is modern, clean, and remarkably safe, offering visitors a warm and welcoming introduction to Rwanda.

Over the past two decades, Rwanda has become a leading eco-tourism destination, investing heavily in conservation and infrastructure. From birding and crystal-clear lakes to savannah landscapes and vibrant traditional culture, this journey with Feather Trail Safaris promises unforgettable experiences.
DAY 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your professional Feather Trail Safaris driver-guide and transferred to your hotel in Kigali.

DAY 2: Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Ruhengeri
After breakfast, enjoy a complimentary guided city tour of Kigali. Founded in 1907 by Dr. Richard Kandt, Kigali is gracefully built across lush hills and perfectly reflects Rwanda’s nickname.
During your tour, you may visit local craft markets, the Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi, and the Kigali Museum — offering powerful insight into Rwanda’s history and resilience.
Later, depart on a scenic two-hour drive to the Ruhengeri (Musanze) region, Rwanda’s second-largest town, dramatically set against the five majestic Virunga Volcanoes.

Enjoy lunch at the Red Rocks Intercultural Exchange Centre before participating in a unique cultural experience. Learn about traditional banana beer brewing and discover the fascinating fermentation process. If interested, you may join local women in squeezing banana juice and taste a glass (optional). Basket weaving and handicraft demonstrations are also available, and your visit directly supports community livelihoods.
Later, transfer to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Driving distance: Approximately 2 hours
Overnight: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (FB)
DAY 3: Golden Monkey Trekking & Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village
Today you will track Golden Monkeys inside Volcanoes National Park. Enter dense bamboo forests and open glades as expert guides lead you to a habituated group of these rare and playful primates.

You will spend up to one hour observing them in their natural habitat, watching them leap between bamboo stalks, feed, and interact freely. Golden Monkeys are energetic, curious, and wonderfully photogenic, making this a truly memorable experience.
Later, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, a community-based initiative that supports former poachers and local families through conservation-focused tourism. Here you will learn about traditional Rwandan culture, music, dance, and heritage.
Return to your lodge for lunch, relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.
Driving distance: Approximately 45 minutes
Overnight: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (FB)
DAY 4: Meet the Gorillas
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing and gorilla family allocation. Then begin your once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking adventure inside Volcanoes National Park.

Guided by experienced rangers, you will hike through forested slopes of the Virunga Mountains in search of your assigned gorilla family. When you finally encounter them, you will have one magical hour to observe them up close — mothers nurturing infants, juveniles playing, and the dominant silverback calmly overseeing his group.
This intimate wildlife encounter is emotional, humbling, and unforgettable.
The trek may take between two to six hours depending on the location of the gorillas and involves moderate physical activity at altitude. We recommend sturdy hiking boots, long trousers, gloves, snacks, and sufficient water.
After your trek, return to the lodge for lunch, dinner, and overnight.
Overnight: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (FB)
