3-Day Rwanda Gorilla Trek – Midrange Tour
Tour Highlights
● Authentic Rwandan cultural experiences
● Encounter the “Kings of the Jungle” – the Mountain Gorillas
● Guided Kigali city tour including the Genocide Memorial and local markets
Rwanda, often referred to as the “Land of a Thousand Hills,” is one of Africa’s most breathtaking destinations. Its rolling green landscapes, volcanic mountain ranges, and rich biodiversity create a stunning natural setting for exploration. In the northwestern region, the Virunga Volcanoes provide sanctuary to some of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, offering one of the most remarkable wildlife encounters on the planet.
Beyond gorilla trekking, Rwanda offers peaceful retreats along Lake Kivu, dense rainforests in Nyungwe National Park, and a vibrant, well-organized capital city—Kigali. Known for its cleanliness, safety, and strong conservation efforts, Rwanda stands out as one of Africa’s most rewarding travel destinations.
Day 1 – Welcome to the Land of a Thousand Hills
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your professional driver-guide. Your journey begins with a complimentary guided tour of Kigali.
Founded in 1907 by Dr. Richard Kandt, Kigali is a city built across scenic hills, blending modern development with rich historical significance. During your tour, you may visit local craft markets, the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Gisozi, and the Kigali Museum, each offering meaningful insight into Rwanda’s history, resilience, and transformation.
After lunch, enjoy a scenic drive of approximately two hours to Musanze, home to Ingagi Park View Lodge. This vibrant town lies at the base of the Virunga Volcanoes and serves as the gateway to Volcanoes National Park.
In the afternoon, visit the Red Rocks Intercultural Exchange Centre for an authentic cultural experience. Learn about traditional banana beer brewing, and if interested, participate in hands-on demonstrations such as extracting banana juice and tasting the locally brewed drink (optional). You can also explore basket weaving and other traditional crafts that support local community livelihoods.
Depending on time and interest, optional activities may include a guided visit to the Musanze Caves, a village walk, or a visit to the Dian Fossey grave site, honoring the legendary primatologist who dedicated her life to the conservation of mountain gorillas.

Day 2 – Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters in Kinigi for registration and a pre-trekking briefing before entering Volcanoes National Park.
Today marks the highlight of your journey—gorilla trekking. Accompanied by experienced rangers and trackers, you will hike through bamboo forests and volcanic slopes in search of a habituated gorilla family.
Once the gorillas are located, you will be allowed to spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat. Watch as the gorillas interact—juveniles play, mothers care for their young, and the dominant silverback watches over the group with calm authority. This rare and intimate encounter is considered one of the most extraordinary wildlife experiences in the world.
The trek may last between 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas and the terrain. A moderate level of physical fitness is recommended. Travelers should carry sturdy hiking boots, long trousers, gloves, sufficient drinking water, and light snacks for the trek.
After the experience, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you may choose to unwind or participate in optional cultural or community activities.
